Blusens BQR has both 125cc riders in the Top 10 of the World Championships
The Qatar GP, the first race in the World MotoGP Championships, was a resounding success for the riders of the Blusens BQR team in the 125cc Class. Scott Redding (5th) y Efrén Vázquez (9th) surpassed even the most optimistic expectations, confirming that the Catalan team is a serious contender with a great future in the 125 cc class. Moreover, Redding finished the first race of the season as the holder of the new record for the Losail Circuit: 2’05”695.
After this magnificent result, there was an atmosphere of delight and satisfaction in the Blusens BQR team, thanks to a job well done. “Not even in our most optimistic estimates did we think we would be in this situation so soon. We knew that we had two top-quality, hard-working riders, but to be so high up at this early stage is simply tremendous. The explanation lies in the sterling work of the whole team throughout this initial part of the season,” summarised Ricard Jové, the team’s General Manager.
Scott Redding, who had a magnificent outing in the Qatar GP, affirmed that he felt very good on his bike over the whole weekend: “I’m really happy with this result and with my race strategy. I managed to keep a cool head so as not to risk a really great fifth place.” The British rider completed the 18 laps of the race in 39’11”263, and was only two tenths of a second off the podium.
The Bilbao-born rider, Efrén Vázquez, also contributed to the party atmosphere in the team led by Raúl Romero, finishing in the Top10, too. Efren made a spectacular fight back, stressing that, “I made sure that I didn’t get rattled after getting off to a bad start, and I've shown that I can race on equal terms with the best riders in the class”. In spite of not finishing the race, Dino Lombardi achieved his aim of gaining experience and getting in some quality mileage.
Things were very different for the Blusens BQR 250cc team: both riders, Laverty and Hernández, came off on the first lap and saw their respective hopes dashed. At the end of the race, the Irishman Eugene Laverty was downbeat about his slip-up, which led to his team-mate’s fall: “All I can do is apologise for my rashness. It was a shame not to be able to continue building on our progress.”
Manuel Hernández said “it was frustrating to be out of the race right from the start, after having worked so hard in training. If in the end I get the chance to ride in Jerez, I hope to get over this disappointment.”
The members of the Blusens BQR team are to return to Spain in the next few hours. Once home they will undertake a detailed analysis of this intense first installment of the campaign, and start the preparations for the Spanish GP, which will be held in Jerez in the last week of March
